OVERTAKE New Product Launch - Cam Solenoid Covers | Subaru WRX, BRZ, 86 Engine Dress-Up

Your Subaru's engine bay is mostly sorted from the factory, but the cam solenoid covers are not. They sit right at the front of the engine, four of the most visible pieces of hardware under the hood, and Subaru finished them in plain stamped metal to save a few dollars. The new OVERTAKE Cam Solenoid Covers hide those dull factory pieces with CNC-machined aluminum covers that bolt on in minutes and make that corner of the bay look like you meant it. They come as a complete set of four, one for each cam solenoid, in red, black, or OVERTAKE blue, with fresh stainless hardware in the box. This is a dress-up part, plain and simple. It will not add power or change how your car drives. It just makes the engine bay look right, and it fits a wide range of Subarus, from the VA and VB WRX and the BRZ to the Forester XT, Crosstrek, Ascent, and more.

If you already know you want a set, you can see the full OVERTAKE Cam Solenoid Covers lineup in all three finishes here. For everyone still deciding, here is exactly what you are getting and what the install looks like.

What Are Cam Solenoid Covers, and Why Replace the Factory Ones?

The cam solenoids sit at the front of each cylinder head, part of the variable valve timing system Subaru calls AVCS, and on these engines there are four of them, two per side. You will sometimes see these called cam sensor covers, but it is the same part. The covers over them are some of the most visible hardware in the bay. Subaru made them out of plain stamped metal because they are functional parts that most owners never look at twice.

If you have done any other work in the bay, an intake, some fresh hardware, a little cleanup, the factory covers are usually the piece that still looks unfinished. They are dull, they are forgettable, and they sit right where your eye lands when you open the hood. That is the entire reason this part exists. Hide the plain steel and that corner of the engine bay goes from bone-stock to built.

What Makes the OVERTAKE Cam Solenoid Covers Different?

CNC-Machined Aluminum in Three Finishes

Each cover is machined from solid aluminum, anodized, and stamped with the OVERTAKE logo on top. You get a matched set of four in your choice of red, black, or OVERTAKE blue. The blue is the standout, but all three give you a clean, intentional look in place of the bare factory metal, and the machined finish is built to hold up to under-hood heat over time.

Countersunk Stainless Hardware, Included

The kit comes with eight stainless steel flat head screws, two for each cover, to replace your old fasteners. Because they are flat head, they sit perfectly flush on the face of the cover once they are in instead of standing proud. The whole set installs with a single hex tool, so there is nothing exotic to buy.

Honest About What It Is

This is a cosmetic upgrade. It does not add power, it does not require a tune, it does not touch your wiring, and it is fully reversible. OVERTAKE is not pretending otherwise. If your goal is a cleaner engine bay, this is one of the easiest ways to get there. If you are chasing performance, this is not that part, and that is fine. Not every upgrade needs to make numbers.

These also play well with the rest of a build. If you are already running other machined pieces under the hood, the covers are the kind of finishing touch that pulls the whole bay together. You can browse the rest of the OVERTAKE engine dress-up lineup to match the look.

How Hard Is the Install?

Easy. This is about as simple as bolt-on mods get. In the video the full set of four went in inside of about six minutes, and the longest part is getting to them, not installing them.

What You Need

  • A 10mm socket to remove the factory fasteners

  • A hex wrench to snug down the new flat head hardware

  • Two minutes to pop the intake snorkel off and back on

The Steps

  1. Pop the intake snorkel off to reach the covers. On most setups it is held by two clips, so the whole unit lifts off.

  2. Start on the passenger side, where the covers are easiest to see. Remove the two 10mm fasteners holding the cover. Take off just the hardware, do not pull the solenoid unit out.

  3. Set the factory cover aside and drop the OVERTAKE cover into the same spot.

  4. Thread the new stainless hardware in by hand first, then finish with the hex wrench. These take very little torque, so just snug them down. Do not crank on them or you can snap a bolt.

  5. Repeat for the remaining three covers, then reinstall the snorkel. Done.

Does the Install Change Between Models?

A little, because these fit a range of Subarus and the engine bays are not identical. The VB WRX is a good example: there is a wiring harness on the driver side that sits in the way. Unplug the sensors there, move the harness aside, and you have clear access. OVERTAKE has a full install guide with complete fitment on the website if your car is laid out differently.

Who Should Buy a Set?

If you have already cleaned up your engine bay and the factory covers are the last dull piece bringing the look down, these finish the job. If you show your car, or you just open the hood a lot and want it to look as good as the rest of the build, they are an easy win. If you never look under the hood and do not care how the bay presents, you can skip these without missing anything. It is a dress-up part for people who care about the details, and it is honest about being exactly that.

Will these fit my 2022 WRX?

Yes. The set covers the VA and VB WRX across the 2015 through 2026 range, so a 2022 is included. Check the full fitment list on the product page to confirm your exact model.

Do these add any power?

No. They are a purely cosmetic upgrade. They hide the dull factory covers with CNC-machined aluminum and do not change how the car runs.

Do I need a tune or any wiring for these?

No. There is no tune, no wiring, and no permanent modification. The covers bolt on over the factory solenoid locations and the install is fully reversible, so your OEM covers go right back on if you ever need them to.

How long does the install take?

Around six minutes for all four once you are set up. You need a 10mm socket and a hex wrench, and the biggest single step is popping the intake snorkel off to reach the covers.

What comes in the kit?

A complete set of four covers, one for each cam solenoid, in your chosen finish, plus eight stainless steel flat head screws to replace your old fasteners.
