The Best of Both Worlds | Overtake ModKnob Weighted Delrin Shift Knobs

We all love a good weighted shift knob for the smooth and direct feel they offer to the shifting experience. The biggest issue that we have found with many heavy-weight knobs however, is that they get extremely hot in the summer and cold in the winter due to their steel bodies. We have found that engineering plastics like Delrin are much better at reflecting heat and staying cool to the touch, but don't have the heft of a steel knob. 

The Overtake ModKnobs are a perfect combination of the positive aspects of both materials, without any of the drawbacks. Our kit starts with a sleek 303 stainless steel base that is then mated to a Delrin handle. We utilize a single bolt to secure these two parts together, along with an O-ring in a dedicated groove to prevent the parts from rotating independently during installation and use.

Best shift knob for hot weather

The shift know is the perfect weight for a smooth shift, but not so heavy to make my shifts feel muddy! The best part is the Delton knob doesn’t get scorching hot in the sun!

Very nicely made shift knob!

Received this a few days ago, and now had the opportunity to install the new shift knob. It is very nicely made, and the feel is Good! This tall version put the shift knob at the height I was looking for. I will report how this performs once I get the WRX out on the road.

Perfect feel

Install was a breeze. Out of the box it feels like a decent weight. I was looking for something taller to bring the shifter closer to the steering wheel but needed something that wouldn't stay hot in summer or cold in winter.... Enter this shifter. Great weight paired with short shifter. Installed in my BRZ that sees track use.

Absolute Masterpiece!

Purchased this during a quick visit to their shop and installed it before leaving. It has the same height as a stock Subie shifter while having the weight of a heavier knob. The Delrin is a smooth finish that feels great in the hand. Until they release more colors, this is going to be my go to shift knob! As always, the Overtake team created yet another perfect product.

Excellent concept.

This shift knob and the concept of the shift knob with a shell to change it out is ideal for me .. I come from a Subaru WRX VB using Duracon light weight shift knobs at 60mm to 70mm tall and 72-110grams in weight. This knob has taken a couple of weeks for me to get used to. With the OEM accessory extended arm rest this 78mm tall 275 gram knob works out very well. I would highly recommend.

One of the best shifters I’ve ever used

One of the best shifters I’ve ever used on a Subaru. Excellent weight that’s not too heavy or light, and the material is amazing for any sort of climate, cold or hot. Texture is easy to clean and amazing quality all around. Excited for new shift knobs to switch out and mod!!

The perfect shiftknob

After trying various shift knobs, I’ve found the modknob to be the best overall. The weight is similar to the aluminum Sti knob but it has a smooth delrin handle thats comfortable and doesn’t get too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter. 10/10 recommend - the tall modknob is my go to but reverse can be tricky for someone unfamiliar with tall shiftknobs; I got the short modknob as well so family and service can access the reverse lockout more comfortably.

Always wanted a bigger knob

Easy install. Just wanted to see if life was better with a bigger knob. Not much different from the day to day, little more difficult to lift the collar for reverse with it being so tall, but I can't complain. Might grab an extra base and try to turn a knob from some nice wood. Cool idea to have the knob separate from the base!

Bought at subi fest i must say this is the BEST SHIFT KNOB ON THE MARKET it doesn't heat up or get cold an they are going to be making interchangeable tops which I cant wait for if your having doubts dont ... Just BUY IT

Are there any plans for other color options and shift patterns in the future? I really like the look and idea of this shift knob but I really don’t vibe with plain white or black.

Great question and the quick answer is yes! Since the design of these is modular, we plan on making more options for replacement tops, including different colors and materials. Keep an eye out in the next few months for a couple of new selections (including one with a shift pattern machined in).

What do you think about the weighted shift knob acting similar to resting your hand on the shifter, which is not recommended by Subaru. I have this shift knob and love it.

Hey Isaac! That is a great question. This topic has come up in other conversations in the past, but there has been no scientific evidence that I have been able to find that proves that to be an actual issue as a weighted knob exerts a straight downward force. Whereas resting your hand on it applies variable angled pressures. That extra leverage can put additional stress on the shift forks against the gears that could cause premature wear.
